My Thoughts
One of the great joys of practicing architecture is meeting new clients and developing relationships. I have been fortunate in my career to have worked with clients on a diverse range of projects, from homeowners in Sausalito, to the director of a space suit lab at NASA Ames Research Center, to the general manager of the Huntington Hotel in San Francisco, to the owner of a Pepsi distributor in Mississippi, to a manufacturing director at See’s Candies. The opportunity to learn from these clients continues to provide an education I couldn’t have imagined. Every project I work on, no matter what type or what size, always influences the next design in some positive way. I have been enriched by these clients and their projects, and that has made me a better architect.
Project design today is more complex and challenging than ever before. Regulatory, environmental, energy, and technological requirements demand a range of skills that often falls outside the expertise of architects. The ability to assemble a great team to meet a project’s challenges is essential to a project’s success. Through the many projects I have designed and managed, I have had the opportunity to collaborate and establish long-term relationships with an outstanding group of consultants. Having a team that is professional, responsive, and communicates well pays huge dividends in the overall quality of the project.
